Sterculiaceae, Cola acuminata, Cola nut – Gabon, Central West Africa

I found this large Cola tree in a small neighborhood/village at the edge of Libreville. I’m pretty sure it’s C. acuminata. Here is a previous entry on Cola nitida, which I collected and propagated from Summit botanical gardens in Panama. Cola nut is sold fresh in the municipal markets in Libreville and is often seen sold by small walking vendors along side chewing gum and cigarettes. Here are previous entries related to the Sterculiaceae family , which includes such species as Cacao (Theobroma cacao), other Cola spp. and the Panama Tree.
