Chelidonichthys spp., gurnard, a very interesting-looking fish – Croatia

Apparently its a deep-sea dwelling fish. I thought it looked pretty amazing…. Thanks to comments from a few visitors to this site (via comment forum below) following initial posting, I have partially identified the fish as a species of Chelidonichthys, also known as gurnard.

It appears to have retractable wing-like fins… Check out photos on GoogleImages.  Please let me know if you know what species it might be.

  1. My name is Frank and now living in Brisbane Australia. This fish is very similar in looks to a common fish found in New Zealand waters called a ghunard. Excellent able fish and caught in shallow to moderately deep waters off both coasts.
