Bromeliaceae, Duterocohonia brevifolia – Argentina, Bolivia

The photo below is of Deuterocohonia brevifolia a terrestrial bromeliad (pineapple relative) native to Argentina and Bolivia. Its interesting the way it appears to have poured down this stone step, almost like water. This is one of the, if not the, most cold hardy of Bromeliads. Here’s a link to a previous post on another incredible species in the Bromeliaceae family, Puya berteroniana, native to Chile.

    I have Billbergia nutans but would gladly grow this hardy looking little plant…looks like it could hold it’s own on Serendipity Farm ;)

    it looks like that fake grass carpet stuff they sell at walmart! Maybe this brom is what they fashioned it after?
    strangest thing I’ve ever seen!
