October 5, 2009
White Sapote is a medium size evergreen tree, typically not growing more then 12 m high.
The species, a relative of citrus, originated in the highlands of Mexico and Central America, now widely grown throughout the tropics.
Its primary use is for its fruit, which is of an excellent flavor and texture, and extremely nutritious, rich in vitamin A and C, carbohydrates and protein. Sugar content can be as high as 27%.
The tree is also an excellent bee forage. The presence of bees greatly enhances fruit set.
